For round six of the FIM Motocross World Championship, thirteen thousand spectators watched as Tommy Searle wins MX2 Race 2 but misses the podium, while Desalle tops the MX1 with a 1-1 - Dutch teenager Jeffrey Herlings takes the MX2 overall and the red plate.
Desalle has been ahead in the MX1 series standings for the last three rounds and has increased his lead on Cairoli from six to twelve points.
Clement said: "It was good to win and I'm happy with the result but I'm not that pleased with some mistakes I made. Tony was getting close to me both times but I stayed focussed and didn't want to crash. I wasn't tense and I knew what speed I could do. It was good to get more experience of being at the front and learning from the pressure! I had to pass Rui and Bobryshev in the second moto but I took my time because I didn't want to have to take any risks. I looked for opportunities and there wasn't many because the track was very rough and stony. I am still leading the Championship, but we will think about this more at the end of the season!"
MX2
In MX2 the CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider, Tommy Searle had miserable luck in the first race as he was forced to retire with green net fencing tangled in his rear wheel. But the great form he took from his win at St Jean d'Angely hadn't deserted him.
Searle started well with Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull Teka KTM) and his teammate, Ken Roczen ahead of him. But early in race 2 Roczen - who had earlier taken the win in race 1 - made an error on the tough circuit which took him over the handlebars, landing head first. Roczen was clearly winded and unable to continue the race.
Herlings and Searle spent much of the race with a few seconds between them but Searle pushed Herlings hard and began to close on the Dutch teenager, finally passing him for a 16 second victory.
Searle is third in the MX2 standings with 224 points. Herlings took the GP victory and the red plate - he tops the standings with 257 points from Ken Roczen on 251 points.
Tommy Searle said: "It was a day of mixed fortune today. I felt that in the second moto I rode my best race of the year; that was great. But I'm really disappointed about the first race; I made one small mistake but it cost me so much ! I usually try to stay away from the edge of the track as much as I can, but my back wheel slipped as I went for a pass and I got some green fence in my wheel. It's frustrating as it probably cost me 25 points. The track was good; they put some water down for the second moto but I was happy with my riding. I felt so good in that race, and was really having fun on the bike.”
The next event will be at La Baneza for the Grand Prix of Spain on June 19.
