Ryan's air of quality

WITH a large contingent of Italian riders, a mere sprinkling of other foreign competitors and a quality home grown field, it was Darren Hudson's Cumbria Twin-shock outfit that played host to the end of season two-day International at a very soggy, rain battered, energy sapping Hawkstone Park circuit.
On a weekend where the weather had a massive influence on men and machinery, some riders chose to ride on the Saturday only.
Suzuki-mounted Neil Prince fell into this category but he posted two blistering wins in the Expert class keeping at bay a quality field which included Alex Rach, Matt Porter, Ryan Voase and world Twin-shock champion Jamie Painton.
Ryan Voase took the honours on Sunday with two superb wins aboard the LPE prepared '79 Kawasaki and with it the overall victory from a very rapid Matt Porter who squeezed every ounce of power from the '76 Husqvarna.
Sixteen-year-old Tom Holland, debuting on the 125cc Yamaha, was the star in the RDH Motorhomes 125/ 250cc class, taking two outright wins on Saturday and a further two class wins on Sunday.
In the 250cc section, Chris Whittle took two class wins but the greater consistency of Terry Moore and Craig Smith, who both rode extremely well all weekend in all conditions, rewarded them with positions one and two at the end of Sunday's racing with Rob Moseley in third.
Former world champion Graham Noyce and Nigel Parker took a win apiece in the Performance Windows Over 40 section, but Sunday's racing was dominated by Chris Woodward with two wins and the Italian pairing of Alessandro Orbati and Roberto Canelli who finished second and third overall.
The MD Racing Products Over 50 class was a tightly fought affair all weekend between Peter Lightfoot, Martin Snape and John Mercer. Pete eventually went home with the largest piece of silverware.
Sean Grosvenor took top spot in the John Burrows sponsored Evolution class with some superb racing but it was man of the meeting Ryan Voase who dominated with three race wins. It really could well have been four wins if the Kawasaki hadn't been so reluctant to fire up for the start of race three leaving Ryan stranded in the paddock as the gate dropped.
Gavin Baldwin saved his best performances of the year for this event and was rewarded with a well earned and popular victory in the Clubman class.
In the Wulfsport Vets section, it was Mark Silvester who came out on top of two titanic head to head battles with Alan Eaves in Saturday's action.
Lee Davies performed heroically to take the race three win but at the end of Sunday's action it was that man Silvester again who finished top of the pile with another superb last race win.
In the Modern class races Glen Phillips looked a class apart and totally dominated to post four superb race wins in what was a quality field.
