The destination of the 2012 AMCA MX1 and MX2 Championships will go down to the wire, with quite possibly even dramatic last moto shootouts during the final round, at Hawkstone Park, on Sunday, October 7.
Following the latest action, promoted by Mid Cheshire MXC at their Norley circuit last Sunday, Lee Payne now holds an eight-point advantage in MX1 whilst Ben Saunders has jumped to the top of MX2 class – by a mere three points.
At Norley, Ben produced a stunning performance to control all three MX2 motos and bag a maximum, turning a 63 point deficit into his current advantage.
MX2 series leader Jack Cox endured one of his least productive meetings of 2012, having to settle for seventh.
In MX1, the dynamic top three of Lee Payne, Lee Dunham and Clinton Barrs, again filled the podium placings and just a nervous 13 points separate the trio going into the final clash.
It's sure to be a Hawkstone thriller.
Making his intentions clear, Ben Saunders, on his tasty 150cc two-stroke KTM, posted the quickest qualifying time, but it was fast-starting Ryan Crowder who led MX2 moto one away.
However, before completion of the opening lap, Saunders was in control and there he remained for the entire contest, with the equally impressive Crowder in tow.
Although the leading duo were clear, there was some red-hot battles raging behind.
Having his best ride of the season, James Chadwick, holding third, was under constant attack from Scott Mathia and Ryan Jones while Paul Neale, Sean Frayne,
series leader Jack Cox and Ryan
Morris were storming upfield to tag onto Mathia and Jones.
The determined Chadwick resisted all his challengers and claimed that third spot at the flag as Mathia dropped to eighth behind Jones, Cox, Neale and Frayne.
