Sidecar dragons all ready to roar

Motocross

Good news from the land of the Red Dragon early this week, courtesy of Malcolm Bates, is that the snow is thawing from the hills and valleys surrounding the village of Llanwrthwl, near Rhayader, mid Wales, where the fifth round in the ACU Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British sidecar trials championship will take place this Saturday.

Even better news is that the entry now is up to a mighty 20 crews and that includes the ‘Iron Man' of sidecar trialling Chris Kimber.

The Rochester man suffered broken ribs and other internal injuries in freak crash while attacking a section in the Colin Dommett event on Sunday, March 3.

Title leader and series sponsor Robin Luscombe considers the Kimbers - Rupert and Chris - to be his most serious rivals.

Peter Dale rides Championship  class with Harriett Shore and Harriet is a very driven young lady.

As an accomplished solo rider the Reading student means business on three wheels.

Tony Crabtree joins the party with new passenger Guy Kenyon-Bell so expect fireworks from the Daventry based MRS Sherco pilot.

Four crews ride the Championship course and the same number attack the Inter route.

Daryl Dale and Hannah Etherington head the current series scoreline from Andy Scrivens and Martin Lawford,  two points ahead of David Tuck and Steven Chandler.

The old firm, in the guise of Steve Radford and Mike Redston, posted a double victory in Cornwall and Devon and could well take a third victory on Saturday.

A healthy entry of a Baker's Dozen (that's 13) hit the Clubman route in what is really a championship coming to the boil.

Huddersfield crew Nigel Scott and Jay Ashley-Hall are one up on Mark Kemp and Ian Allaway with Robbie Head and Aron Jacobs five points down on Kemp and Allaway.

The entries weren't due to close until Tuesday this week so there was still a chance of extra entries as TMX was going to press.

The weather report from the man in charge, Malcolm Bates, was good early this week. The snow is going and providing there is no adverse changes the show is on the road on Saturday morning at 10am.

This has all the makings of a classic championship course with the format set to be two laps of 12 miles.

Start area is the Vulcan Arms/ Halt Restaurant and the postcode is LD1 6NN.

With the popular Jack Wood and Lomax Nationals having been cancelled last weekend here's hoping that the Welsh goes ahead without a hitch. On Sunday the Llanfyllin club are running the second round of the Mid Wales Centre trials Championship at Llansantffraid ym Mechain at 11am. Entries close on the day.
