Sterry debut ends with broken wrist

World championship hopeful Adam Sterrys first full season of GP racing got off to a disastrous start at Qatar when he broke his left wrist during Fridays timed training session.
The 19-year-old from Chester, who led his first-ever grand prix moto in Argentina last year, is viewed by many as a potential MX2 top-10 runner this season.
He now looks certain to miss the next two GPs as well as the opening round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship later this month when he would have started as one of the favourites.
"I'm gutted, especially because it happened in timed training," he said. "I'd worked so hard for this and didn't even get to race. I just came up short in the bombhole in the middle of the track - I didn't even crash.
"I've never broken a bone before so I didn't know what it feels like so I just carried on and jumped the next tabletop. I didn't feel any pain straight away, it wasn't until about 10 seconds later that I realised something was wrong.
"I'm having an operation to plate it tomorrow morning [Wednesday] and I'm guessing I'll be out for four or five weeks but that's all it is, a guess."
Steve Turner, owner of Sterry's Wilvo Virus Performance KTM team, was critical of the track design for the opening GP of
the year.
"I'm really upset about Adam's injury," he said. "For me, the jump itself was 99 per cent responsible for Adam's injury which was pretty much confirmed by them changing it on Saturday so it was no longer possible to do the double.
"It's dangerous enough without having jumps in with zero margin for error. It's just unnecessary in my opinion and, just like last year, it cost another few riders - one of which happened to be Adam.
"Hopefully he'll be back soon and will show everyone what he can do!"
