KTM continues to be the dominant factory when it comes to the specialist world of Desert Racing and for 2009 this is certain to continue.

The Austrian factory recently held a photo-shoot in the south of France and its three factory teams were present to show-off their shiny new kit. On show and out on the track were the Spanish pairing of Jordi Viladons and Marc Coma on the Repsol KTMs, French ace Cyril Despres and his Red Bull-sponsored beauty and Alain Duclos on the Kastle KTM.
The team are winding-up for the 2009 Dakar Rallye which, thanks to continued worries regarding security issues in
west Africa has upped ship – and jumped
continents.
The 2009 Dakar will actually take place in South America, starting and finishing in Buenos Aires, Argentina and taking in a monster 9,500-kilometre loop taking competitors deep into Chile.
The huge change in format certainly hasn't done the Dakar any harm as a massive 230 bikes are signed-up to make the start along with 30 Quads, 188 cars and 82 trucks.
