THE 2010 TRIAL SEASON IS READY TO BEGIN

Whilst many of the other motorcycle disciplines are still enjoying the winter break, the 2010 season is set to start early for an elite group of riders in the Trial community. Sheffield, Great Britain will once again have the honour of opening the new year, with the compact arena on the outskirts of the northern city playing host to round one of the 2010 SPEA FIM Indoor Trial World Championship on Saturday 9th January.
Sheffield is the first stop on a packed schedule that will see the eight fixedriders visit seven different destinations before the final round in Madrid,Spain at the end of March. Whilst two of the seven rounds are yet to beconfirmed, the five rounds which are listed include some well establishedvenues, which all have a rich history of creating some epic duels.
Theeight fixed riders include reigning champion Toni Bou - Repsol Montesa who willbe looking not only to retain his title, but also to make it four straight winsin a row. His challengers will come in the form of Albert Cabestany (Spain) -Sherco, Adam Raga (Spain)- Gas Gas, Takahisa Fujinami (Japan) - Repsol Montesa,Jeroni Fajardo (Spain) - Beta, James Dabill (Great Britain) - Gas Gas, LorisGubian (France) - Gas Gas and Alexz Wigg (Great Britain) - Beta.
As perlast year, each local organiser is permitted to select a maximum of two wildcard entrants to join the eight fixed riders during the qualification lap, whichmust consist of a minimum of four sections. The best eight riders, followingqualification, will take part in the Trial itself, which will go through threenew elimination stages (TX1, TX2 and TX3) to decide the eventualwinner.
TX1 will begin with a quartet of head tohead races, with the four race winners transfering straight to TX2. The fourrace losers will go to a last chance section to decide the remaining two riderswho will then also progress to TX2. The next stage of the Trial will see thesesix riders fight it out over three more sections, with the best four riders thengoing head to head again in a second dual lane race. These remaining four riderswill ride four final sections in TX3, with the final results being determinedwith the scores from TX2 and TX3 being added together to create an overalltotal.
This exciting and dynamic new format is sure to producesome thrilling action, some surprising results and many hours of incredibleentertainment as this elite group of riders deliver their unique mix of skilland bravery. So although the new year is still only young, the first fight ofthe season is now just a few days away.
