Three out of three for Lee at Three
By TMX Archives on 11th Jun 08
ROUND three of the Gimoto National Super-moto Championship took place at the Three Sisters circuit, Wigan, recently, and a warm sunny circuit awaited riders for practice.
The weather was excellent and led to some fantastic racing. Trophies for the event were provided by ‘Dirt Team' and additionally riders also had chance to win cash, trophies and champagne, courtesy of Billy Barrowcliff.
Oliver Harrison walked away with maximum points for the Youth class, even though Jordan Holliday was getting the better race starts. Meanwhile, Joseph Jones showed real potential at this round.
NATIONAL 250cc CHAMPS
LEE Cunliffe was unchallenged for all three races, and Lee Rudd claimed the first two second places from Simon Bentley. Simon would turn the tables in the final to take second away from Lee, and newcomer to the class, Joe Edwards took the honours for fourth place.
NATIONAL 450cc CHAMPS
ANDY Mitchell led the first of three 450cc races, and held the front unchallenged to the final flag. Second to fourth positions were hotly contested with James Addy challenging Lee Jones at every opportunity. As these two battled it out, David Farmer took any advantage he could gain. By the final lap, the top three had settled down with Mitchell and Addy gaining ground from Jones and Farmer.
In race two, Jones tried hard to exit the first corner in the lead but was cut off by Mitchell. However, Lee was the first rider over the line to start lap two. This left Addy in third ahead of Farmer.
Coming out of the dirt section going into lap three, Mitchell found himself in front again as Jones remounted his bike to find himself in 23rd spot. Lee then moved steadily through the pack but another fall at Lunar Bends, on the final lap left him well down the points. Meanwhile, Addy had demoted Mitchell and Farmer.
By the final lap, Addy had taken his second win of the day from Andy Mitchell, who was followed now by Richard Sharpe and Farmer, while Chris Walker finished in fifth
place.
In the final race, Mitchell had the early lead but Addy quickly slotted into third behind Farmer. Lee Rudd was fifth until the final stages when he slipped back to eighth.
Addy spent the middle part of the race lining up Mitchell, and he took advantage of back-markers to snatch the lead and the final win of the day. Farmer had an excellent day with two fourth places and a third. Alan Bott had a flying start and finished in seventh place behind Russ Plevin.
