Throwback: Matterley Basin 2006 MXoN

The last time the Motocross of Nations was held at Matterley Basin was back in 2006.
Team USA claimed the victory, despite not winning a single moto of the three-race format. Three second place finishes, a third and a sixth gave James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and Ivan Tedesco enough points to top Stefan Everts and the Belgian team by seven points.
The New Zealand team of Ben Townley, Josh Coppins and Cody Cooper finished third.
The race also had another significant fact, as for 10-time World Champion Stefan Everts it was his final GP appearance.
Pictured is the final race of the day that proved to be a showdown between Everts (7) and USA's top runner, James Stewart (1). Everts got to the front first, passing early leader David Philippaerts on the fifth lap and from there the Yamaha rider kept and eye on Stewart who was chasing him. Stewart finished second with Tedesco winding up with ninth.
