Tim Gajser leads charge into new MXGP season
By Team TMX on 28th Feb 25

Tim Gajser (Honda HRC) enters the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Cordoba, Argentina as a clear favourite to win the MXGP class and collect a 50th career GP victory.
The HRC star is likely to face stiff opposition from Frenchmen Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha) although the anticipated threat from class newcomer Lucas Coenen (Red Bull KTM) has been stifled by a pre-season crash in which the 18-year-old Belgian picked up some serious injuries. Coenen will race in Argentina but will be at less than 100 per cent. Five-time world champion Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) will miss the opening GP of the season however after knee surgery in the winter.
45 MXGP riders have entered the season opener – over half of them locals – and qualifying will be necessary to whittle them down to 40 starters for Sunday’s races.
The Cordoba circuit is purpose-built for MXGP and situated on the outskirts of Argentina’s second-largest city and it’s anticipated that huge crowds will attend the event. That said, the weather forecast is currently not looking great with some rain coming although the track looks like it will take some water.
