TOMMY Searle arrived in Namur on Friday, just wanting to survive, but by Sunday evening the teenage Brit was frustrasted to have missed his first MX2 GP win after running away with the opening moto.
For Billy MacKenzie too, it was a case of whatmight have been, as he trounced the rest of the world in MX1 qualifyingaround the Citadel, but failed to turn his speed into top points andfor the rest of the GP Brits it was misery all down the line at theworld's most infamous track, particularly for Stephen Sword, whoseseason is over, and Gordon Crockard, who will miss his home GP.
‘‘Good job we've got the old uns,'' quippedMultitek boss Trevor Avery. ‘‘I'd have gone home miserable if it hadn'tbeen for Thorpey!'' Yup, Dave Thorpe won the Under 50 class of theveterans (see separate story).
Oh yes, the winners!
Davide Guarneri made it two in a row for RicciYamaha as Chris Pourcel and Toni Cairoli slugged it out, while SebPourcel won his second GP in a month. The watching Josh Coppins saw hispoints lead cut to 43 and the MX1 series will go to the Lierop finale, but Toni Cairoli only needs to beat Chris Pourcel once to wrap up MX2in Ulster next weekend.
