Trials Torque: Classic Showtime

Alan Wright, or simply 'Wrighty' as he is more commonly known, has been on the trials scene for as long as anyone can remember.

Firstly as a very competitive rider, one of the best out of the Midlands as his many centre championships prove, and later as a prominent trader at events and shows.

He is also the man behind the Telford Show having started out running in the cattle mart at Malvern before discovering the excellent Telford International Exhibition Centre.

Wrighty moved from a one day event to build the show into a thriving two-day venture before health problems forced him to sell up to Mortons, knowing that it is in the Wright hands. (Terrible pun intended!).

Alan still helps out though with ideas and his endless contact list and it was a great idea to allow Wrighty a stand of his own this year to celebrate his trials career.

There were plenty of bikes on display, including his 325 Suzuki, an older 250 Suzuki and James and Bantam Pre-65 machines. Also tucked away on the stand was a rare MickMar model (loaned from the Sammy Miller Museum) a sadly failed British project that was to have seen Britain rival the Spanish and Japanese.

Wrighty had a very short-lived factory ride with MickMar which he succinctly summed up as, "Seven starts, seven retirements, all with gearbox failure.”

With manning his own busy trials retail stand and flitting back and forward to his display stand Wrighty was busier than ever.
