Unlucky Eddie Jay Wade misses RFME title
By Team TMX on 6th Oct 16
Husqvarna-backed Brit Eddie Jay Wade was desperately unlucky to miss out on the RFME national 85cc crown at the final round of the series at Catalyud near Zaragoza.
Needing to finish in the top four to take the title, in the opening moto he was closing on the third-placed rider when he slipped off and struggled to start his bike. Finally rejoining the race in 12th, he fought his way back to fifth and went into the following day's final moto leading by four points and knowing if his main rival won the race he'd have to be second to be champion.
Running fifth for the first couple of laps of race two, Eddie picked his way through but over-jumped a double when challenging for second and landed off the track. Following the marshal's instructions he rejoined the race and with only two corners to go he nailed the double, railed the outside of the following berm and made a pass for second in the final turn.
Thinking he'd won the title, he couldn't work out why his rival was celebrating until it was explained that when he'd rejoined the track after his earlier excursion he'd missed the timing loop and was officially classed as a lap down.
