Salt lake city was the venue for the penultimate round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM WorldChampionship.

More than 40,000 fans squeezed into the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, to watch KTM pilot, Ryan Dungey, return from injury and ride to his fourth victory of the series. Meanwhile in the Western Lites class, Honda's Eli Tomac took victory after an action-packed 15 lap race to wrap up the 2012 championship.

With the Mains title already wrapped up by the injured Ryan Villopoto, the class was thrown wide open. Yamaha's Davi Millsaps had the speed out of the gate to grab the holeshot with Dungey right on his back wheel briefly before Kawasaki's Jake Weimer came through to run second.

By lap eight Dungey started to find form and made a pass to take

second. However Weimer was not in the mood to be pushed around, and quickly retaliated to re-pass Dungey. In the process Dungey went down. Quickly back on the bike, the KTM rider resumed his chase to the front, and with only a couple of laps to go was able to reel Weimer in to take control of second place.

It looked as though leader Millsaps was going to cruise to victory until a mistake in the final laps allowed the charging Dungey enough time to make a last ditch pass to take the flag.

It was great racing out there tonight, and I really dug deep,” said Dungey. "I didn't see the pass coming and that was my fault.

"My front wheel got a barrier in the corner and I went down. My focus was to run him down, and I did. I had a tough part of the middle of the season, and I knew I had the speed tonight. I just needed to be patient.”
