Wilson’s Tex mex max

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, headed into the Cowboys Stadium in Texas for the seventh round and also the opening round of the Eastern Lites class.
More than 54,000 fans were there to witness reigning champion Ryan Villopoto hit the front on the opening lap and never look back, as he sailed to his third victory of the season.
Meanwhile in the Eastern 350 class, fellow Kawasaki rider,
Dean Wilson kicked off his 2013 campaign with an equally dominant performance, to take the first win in this competitive class.
As the gate dropped for the seventh main class race of the season, series leader Davi Millsaps got the jump to fire into the first turn and claim the holeshot award.
But with Villopoto also grabbing a solid start it wasn't long – only a few feet – before he gathered the momentum to make the pass on Millsaps.
On the opening lap, Two Two Honda's Chad Reed also managed to find a way past Millsaps to take second.
Millsaps showed no intentions of backing off and as riders battled for second, Villopoto was left with a clear track ahead of him to pull away and take what looked to be an easy win.
By lap three Millsaps was back on Reed's back wheel where he was able to make a pass and once there he found his rhythm and took his chance to open up some breathing space.
Behind the leaders the battle continued as Reed tried to hang on to third, with Ryan Dungey now starting to apply the pressure.
The pair even made contact as the KTM rider made an aggressive pass to take over third on lap 14.
As the laps counted down, Dungey set his sights on Millsaps but ultimately ran out of track and had to settle for third.
"Starts are definitely important,” said Villopoto.
"I've had a target on my back this year, everyone knows that, and it's stressful.
"I'm just trying to have fun with riding again. If we get third, it's on the podium and if it's second, that's good.
Davi has been riding really well this year, so we have to just chip away at it but it's going to take a while.”
With an excited crowd on the edge of their seats, the gate dropped in the Eastern class and the action kicked off with Honda's Kyle Peters grabbing the holeshot and Dean Wilson and Blake Wharton taking up second and third.
Just before the completion of the opening lap, Wilson found a way past Peters and from then on the Kawasaki rider never looked back, as he led the field for the remainder of the 15-lap event.
"This feels so good,” said Wilson.
"It's been 10 months waiting for that. I knew I needed to get the start, so I fought for it and it went well.
"I saw the leader and I knew I was good in the whoops, so I just went on the outside around him. He raced cleanly and I respect that. From there I just rode my own race.”
Wharton passed Peters not long after Wilson and stayed there until the chequered flag – not a bad result for the Suzuki rider after he needed to take the win in the LCQ to even qualify for the main event.
