Winrow reaches for the Big Sky
By TMX Archives on 11th Mar 09

PAUL Winrow showed everyone present why he is the 2008 Quad Motocross and Quad Endurance champion by winning the two-day Margate Big Sky Beach Cross.
Winrow wasn't content to just ride the Quad class as he took second place behind a very fast Jamie Wilson in the Solo class. Meanwhile, alongside the grownups, was the Youth Quad event with Oliver Drabble winning five out of his six races to take the overall.
The weekend all started on Thursday as the Nash family turned up at the north Kent seaside town and, with the help of the diggers supplied by Ovenden Plant Hire, pushed and shoved the main beach into the best track since racing started at Margate.
On Saturday, the sun came out and so did the crowds to line the sea wall and watch two groups of Adult Quad racers, plus a handful of Youth Quad riders. All groups had three races on each day of the two- day meeting with the Pro Quads and the Solos getting an extra ‘Dash for Cash' race.
The Quad Pro class was to become a clash
of the Winrow Hondas as the man himself and
his team-mate Stefan Murphy set the early pace with the lead changing hands three or four times with Jason Wildman lying in third place.
Race two was a copy of the first, the same two out in front with Jason Wildman again third. In the final race Winrow, in the name of entertainment, let the rest of the riders go and started the race from the back of the pack. This left Murphy unchallenged to take his only win of the weekend with Jerome Bricheux finally getting a fine second place, while Jason Wildman notched yet another third place. As for Winrow, he managed to get up to fifth and lead the overall standings at the end of the first day of racing.
