THE 2008 Inter Centre Team Trials were staged over the weekend by the North East Centre at their Longframlington venue with Youths and Girls on Saturday and Adult Solos and Sidecars on Sunday. Yorkshire bagged the Youths, Girls and Adult Solos while the South Eastern squad claimed the Sidecars...

THE Inter Centre Team Trial finally returned to the North East centre for the first time in 37 years! Held at Hope Farm, near Rothbury, in Northumberland, the event suffered from heavy rain on Saturday which resulted in mud being dragged onto the rock outcrops and grip was at a minimum. Yorkshire started as clear favourites and subsequently went on to show the other 18 centres how it should be done, with four of their riders in the top six of the individual scores.
With a large, enthusiastic crowd following and encouraging the team, the home, North East lads produced the centre's best ever result with a fantastic second place, finishing clear of a strong East Yorkshire squad.
After an easy opener, the double step at section two caught many out on the first lap, with Dan Thorpe and Ian Austermuhle both suffering maximums, while Miles Jones was one of just a handful to make it look easy.
Midland's Ross Danby, who eventually went on to post the best individual score, dropped a slack dab on the tight exit on section four where plenty cleaned including Shaun Fox and South Midland's Michael James.
After a number of cleans, the huge slab at section six became extremely slippery and the tail-enders were struggling, but Gary Jenkins managed to drag his bike up with a huge dab, before James Carr got it perfect for the last clean before a flag was moved for the second lap.

SIDECARS
THERE were a lot of happy faces in the South Eastern Centre's Sidecar Team on Sunday afternoon, having just successfully retained their Inter Centre Team Trial Crown, beating off the challenge of the Isle of Man team by the narrowest of margins, with the East Midland squad not far behind. Pat Treagus's lads were determined to repeat last year's victory but the Isle of Man kept the pressure on right up to the last section, to finish just a solitary dab behind the victors.

East Midland tream members Robin and Gill Morewood were the top individual crew.

The second section featured a step about as big as an outfit will get up and resulted in cleans for those who could manage it and fives for those that couldn't, with very little in between, although top individual crew Robin and Gill Morewood took a single dab on their first lap before cleaning on laps two and three. Top South Eastern pair, Kevin Nolan and Karl Jarvis lost five of their total of twelve here on their first lap.

YOUTH
YORKSHIRE riders hit the jackpot in Northumberland on Saturday when Jonathan Richardson, Richard Sadler, Jack Stones, Josh Maude and Huddersfield youngster Jack Price ran away with the Inter Centre Youth trial from strong East Yorkshire and East Midland teams.
New Class A Youth champion, Ben Morphett, headed the invidual awards from Skeeby's Richardson while Richard Sadler won Class B in the age group battle. Josh Maude rode to a fine seventh while Jack Price lost first place on a tie-break to Class C championship leader Billy Bolt. Guiseley's Margaret Carter stage-managed the victory and also picked the winning Girls team where Danielle Whitham played a major part with Harriet Peacock and cousins Chloe and Hannah Richardson. Danielle was second overall in Class B behind Chloe.
The weather varied be-tween torrential rain and sunshine but the organising North East centre had their fingers on the button at Hope Farm, Longframlington with two laps of 20 sections.
The opener was half a mile into a copse where a narrow beck with roots caught Jon Richardson, Andy Chilton, Josh Stephens and Joe McMeekin for slack dabs. Ben Morphett got the line with Tom Sands, Joanne Coles, Jack Thompson and Jonny Walker. All the front runners in Class B cleaned the double rock turn and beck exit. Billy Bolt, Iwan Roberts, Jack Price and Dan Peace were the sharpest Class C riders.
