Youth Club: Rich Pickings
By Team TMX on 26th Aug 15
Richmond Motor Club have topped or matched the leaderboard in numbers for the penultimate event in the Class B/C/D British Youth Trials Championship at Cogden Hall on Sunday, where 83 youngsters will contest the series.
Laurence Allison's spectacular Cogden Hall venue will form the backdrop for the three-lap, 12-section trial that will contain four variations with only Class C standard wheels having a 50/50 section option.
Clerk of course Greg Porter has many great options with very mild grass and stream sections in the Low Meadow for Class D.
The Grinton Ghyll houses a long rambling stream with many bankside climbs and descents.
And towering above the farm buildings is Cogden Wood which houses rocks, fallen trees, peaty soil climbs, while to the east is half-a-mile of limestone pavement climbs.
The plan is for all classes to eventually ride parts of the wood. Event secretary Sandra Fowler has compiled a comprehensive programme with full details.
Looking at the standings, right across the classes, it is likely that some championships will be settled.
In Class B Billy Green leads the way on 95 points. That puts the Devon starlet 20 points ahead of Bradford's Kieran Child who has not entered because he is on holiday.
Jack Biggins weighs in with 69, to sit ahead of Ulster's John Hanlon by six points. Bill Boy only requires a finish to go home happy.
Reece Gazzard has also a 97 on his card in Class C standard wheels but Charlie Mosley is in top form and only 15 points in arrears.
Harry Turner heads Class C medium wheels by one point from Jamie Galloway, with Henry Stephenson a distant third.
Classes B and C have all ridden five trials whereas Class D missed South Shropshire, as that venue was not suitable.
In Class D Medium-wheels Ashton Brightmore leads Josh McParland and Alfie-Ray Turner.
Monte Andrew, Callum Fowler and Dominic Horne will likely have some serious input into the conclusion of the trial.
Finally, Ted Harston will be stage managing the 20 Class D Small- wheelers where Chirk Llangollen Motor Club member Lewis Hurdsman is intent on beating Mecatecno-mounted Morgan Shepherd and Appleyard OSET rider Myles Hutchinson.
The action starts at 10.30am for Classes B, C and D and there will a full catering unit in operation at the event throughout the day.
