Youths Rock at Mansfield
By Team TMX on 16th Oct 15
Rugged unforgiving Bracken Rocks brought the curtain down on 2015 ACU British Youth Class B, C and D championship series on Sunday at the sleepy village of Holloway whith a record entry of 81 contenders.
The scoreline was about right, considering the torrential rain during the week. Newton Abbot's Billy Green won Class B on 17 penalties and that took in two failures at the five foot rock step at the fifth section on lap one and two but nailed it on his final lap.
The sixth levelled the scores when Kieran Child failed here on two laps and the eighth on his final half lap.
Jacob Snowdon completed the Yeadon-Guiseley trial last week with the Beta rear brake locked solid. Sunday he rode the entire Bracken Rocks course without the rear brake after it broke on lap one.
The big boys started at the seventh and the multitude of Class C runners also tracked them while Class D started at section one.
Ben Dignan topped Class C matching Green's 17 penalties leaving Reece Gazzard to fight for 15 points ahead of Edward Earle.
Class C small wheels was just a straight battle of wits between Harry Hemingway and Harry Turner. ‘Big' Harry Hemmo won while little Hemmo, aka George, topped Class D small wheels.
Both lads fancy a course marshal job at the Scott Trial. Fearless and fast, Buxton's Ashton Brightmore ran off with Class D medium wheels winning over Dominic Horne with fourteen marks to spare.
Mansfield laid on a compact twelve section lap utilising punch cards and leaving out the upper reaches of Bracken Rocks.
The awards were presented by 4pm but with the large Isle of Man contingent who had a ferry to catch at Liverpool at 6.30 pm.
The Club presented the three young ladies with awards for completing the course but the girls were gone. The awards will be sent to them. There was also a young lady from Shropshire back in championship trials action.
Alice MInta rode her first championship trial this year after months of absence with the ankle injury. Miss Minta finished in seventh place.
And the footnote to this seventh Class B/C trial and sixth Class D event. The scores on the spreadsheets for all classes up to Sunday were headed by the same riders after Bracken Rocks.
The boys at the top in terms of mathematics are Billy Green, Reece Gazzard, Harry Turner, Ashton Brightmore and Lewis Hurdsman.
The Trials and Enduro Committee at Rugby will check all results and then declare the 2015 champions.
