Ken Roczen has put out a statement to offer his take on the Houston 3 Main Event incident between himself and Dean Wilson at the NRG Stadium.
Wilson failed to see waved blue flags as Roczen with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Cooper Webb close behind came up on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing pilot on the final laps of the 450SX Main.
As the seconds clicked down on the final two laps, Roczen and Webb came across backmarkers. Getting lapped, Dylan Ferrandis got out of the way of both riders. Seconds later and Roczen came up on the back wheel of Wilson.
A blue flag came out but Wilson appeared oblivious to it, and Roczen couldn't get by. They go through the sand section and the camera is too tight to see if the marshall waved his blue flag. But Wilson goes by another waved blue flag he still looks to be unaware, while Roczen was expecting Deano to move out of the way.
We later learn that Roczen was screaming at Deano to move but couldn't make himself heard Roczen was still unable to find a pass. Wilson's pace means by now Webb is right on Roczen. Kenny appears to hit the back of Deano's wheel on the stall wall and it affects his rhythm.
With Wilson still in the way, Kenny elects to go wide into a corner and Wilson and Webb take the inside line it allows Coop to block Kenny's line for the lead.
There was no way at that point Coop was going to let it slip as he took his first win of the season, leaving Roczen furious with Deano at the side of the track.
But now Roczen is looking to put all that behind him. "I dont really know what to say," Roczen said in his statement.
"Just another bad situation!? I dont know. Should have been my win. I am sure everyone saw what was going on, but after being stuck behind Dean [Wilson] for too long, I ended up hitting his back wheel over the wall and almost crashed and then almost jumped into the back of him on the last lap and just like that I slipped into second.
"Lots of valuable points again that got taken.
"Anyway. Dean Wilson and I are cool. Not going to hold grudges and [I'll] get over it. We have lots of racing ahead of us. Seems like I never pick the easy route anyway. Where is the fun in that? I am just happy to be racing with and for my family. Life is better that way."
As for Wilson. He was very quick to own up to the blunder. "Kenny, I'm sorry and sincerely apologise. I ruined your race and I wish I could take it back," Wilson said.
