The World Supercross Championship, which kicks off the 2022 season at Cardiffs Principality Stadium on Saturday 8 October, is supporting this years Airborne Gunner Supercross event, which takes place tomorrow [Tuesday 9 August] at Cusses Gorse, with each class winner receiving VIP access to the British Grand Prix.

Run by the Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club, the Airborne Gunner Supercross event will see youngsters compete on automatic bikes, 65cc machines, small and big wheel 85s, and in a rookie 125 class, with ages ranging from seven to 15 years old.

The World Supercross Championship will support the grassroots event, with the winning rider in each category receiving a VIP and behind-the-scenes access to the British Grand Prix, with pit walks and rider-meet-and-greets.

Adam Bailey, managing director for motorsport for the world championship, said, Its fantastic to see young riders getting involved in supercross from such a young age and its great to be able to support the event with a money-cant-buy prize for the five different youth winners there will be from the different classes of racing. Everyone starts somewhere, and it could just be that the winners this week, that get to come and see their heroes in Cardiff in October, are eventually on the start gate of a World Supercross Championship event in the future.

Our aim is to develop a strong domestic supercross scene, here in the UK, commented Paul Oughton, club director. Everyone at Steel Hawk is just as excited as everyone else that the World Supercross Championship is coming to the UK for the season-opener, and hopefully itll further inspire riders to pursue a supercross career. For the event to be recognised and supported by the world championship is fantastic and really great for the young riders involved. For the winners, getting along to Cardiff will be an amazing experience.

The Airborne Gunner Supercross event is the only domestic supercross event in the UK, with 2021 its inaugural year. Run by the Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club, the event highlights its commitment to the sport, alongside running the UKs only supercross training schools, with the aim of bringing through the next Max Anstie and Dean Wilson, both of who are competing in the 2022 World Supercross Championship.
