WITH preparations for the 2017 TrialGP season which opens in Spain come May now well underway, Sport7 is delighted to announce the appointment of Brian Higgins as Event Manager for the series.

Having recently stepped down as the head of the Auto Cycle Union, Brian brings with him a great wealth of experience and expertise, which he has gained over a prolonged period of involvement with two-wheel sport in a number of different roles.

Brian's own riding career began as a promising teenager, with him riding for the famous Comerfords Bultaco team in the UK before then moving on to assist with the development of Honda's then-new four-stroke project alongside Trial legends Sammy Miller and Rob Shepherd.

Higgins competed in the FIM Trial World Championship with his Honda team-mate back in the late 1970s before then joining Suzuki and contesting further events together with his new team-mates Malcolm Rathmell and Chris Sutton.

As well as being an accomplished trials rider, Brian was an outstanding enduro rider with him winning a test outright during the FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) hosted on the Isle of Man, before going on to claim a gold medal at the 1976 ISDE in Austria as part of the British Trophy Team.

After a successful riding career, Brian moved into the organising side of the sport and has been responsible for delivering a large number of successful rounds of the British domestic motocross championship over the last two decades.

Higgins became a member of the ACU Motocross Committee back in 2002 before then taking up his post as ACU Motocross Committee Chairman and Maxxis ACU British Motocross Manager in 2008.

In 2011 Brian was elected Chairman of the ACU, a role he accepted for a maximum of two three-year terms and has recently stepped down, thus allowing him to become an important and integral member of the Sport7/ TrialGP organising team.

Sport7 Director Jake Miller said: "We have known and worked with Brian over a number of years both as part of the Maxxis series and more recently with some of our Red Bull events. On all occasions we have enjoyed a great relationship and have been aware of his wide skill set and the huge amount of experience he has in delivering events to a high level.

"Having Brian on board is a massive boost to the project and is something the whole team is very excited about.”

Miller explained: "Brian will carry out venue inspections and will head our onsite crew at each TrialGP, so we are confident he will play an important part in us reaching the high standards we look to achieve.”

Commenting on his new role Brian said: "When Jake informed me of his plans regarding Sport7 and the TrialGP project late last year and that he was looking to build a team to work with him, I was delighted to be asked to be involved.

"Having worked with Jake and his team at various previous sporting events his professional approach aligns with my views on how events should be promoted and I hope I can help to raise the standards and profile of the TrialGP series.

"There is a lot of work to be done, but I am sure that when plans come together it will be of benefit to all teams, riders, organisers, federations, trial fans and other key stake holders.”
