Course planning for the third and final edition of the DL12 Indoor Trial on Saturday 18th January at the Utilita Arena, Sheffield is in its critical phase, with Dougie Lampkin determined to deliver his most challenging set of sections and races yet.

Explaining his thought process Lampkin stated: “Each year the riders get better, so we too have to raise our game and make sure that the sections are the best they can be for the incredible line up of riders we have coming to Sheffield once again.”

“With me still being at World Championship events I get the chance to watch the riders in action throughout the year and this gives me a good understanding of what is possible or not. Also, I like to speak to the riders and get their feedback on what they like and didn’t like from the previous editions.”

“The concrete pipes were nearly axed, but as they weren’t conquered last time, the riders wanted them back again. We have got some new pipes and a different layout, but it’s still going to be a tough hazard.”

“The Hope section is a big favourite for both the riders and the fans. Speaking to Toni (Bou) he wants the turn on to the hub that we had in year one back in as no one managed to do it then, plus the 180-degree turn on the crank arm. Let’s see if his wishes come true!” quipped Dougie.

“We have done away with the big stage in front of the curtain this time which will give us more room and allow us to create a brand-new section that is currently being built after doing some initial testing of the design recently. It will be a series of large wooden boxes, and the steps will be big and awkward.”

Lampkin continued: “I’ve been back to the local quarry to hand pick some new rocks, which this time will be mixed with some big logs to create something different and very technical, as we don’t want big steps in every hazard.”

“The metal Red Bull section that was new earlier this year is back although in a different configuration, Bou back hopping off the step twice was definitely one of the best moments of the last edition.”

“Honda hill is also back, but with a twist and turn to mix things up, there will be no direct straight line to the top, the riders will have to fight a bit harder if they want to reach the end cards come January.”

“And finally, the fans will be happy to know that both races are in again. The Michelin tyres will include a new start / finish platform, and the Honda race will also be tweaked to make the head-to-head battles as close and exciting as possible.”

Seeking some festive sympathy Dougie ended by saying: “Whilst most people will be enjoying their Christmas dinner, I will be working away to make sure everything is ready for January 18.”
