Lampkin looks for 11th SSDT victory
By Team TMX on 26th Apr 17
Dougie Lampkins bid for an unprecedented 11th Scottish Six Days Trial victory begins on Bank Holiday Monday in Fort William.
Lampkin – who took his 10th win last year and, at the age of 40, also became the oldest winner in the event's history – first won the SSDT as an 18-year-old in 1994 to become the youngest ever winner.
While the main focus will be on this year's potential winners, the event is as much about the wide spectrum of other riders who
for many just to complete the six tough days of competition is considered a victory in its own right.
The field of 280 professional and amateur riders includes representatives from 19 nations with those from Australia and Costa Rica reinforcing the global appeal of the SSDT. The list of competitors also includes riders from Andorra, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA and the home nations.
This unique and much revered competition, organised by Edinburgh and District Motor Club, remains the most famous event in the international trial calendar more than 100 years after it was first run.
In addition to the stunning scenery and heritage of the SSDT, the fact that all the competitors – irrespective of ability – compete over the same sections is a big reason why the event continues to attract riders from all over the world.
Ahead of the main 2017 Scottish Six Days Trial, the Pre-65 Scottish Trial will take place in and around Kinlochleven on April 28/29 before the focus switches to Fort William town centre for the opening parade on April 30 at 3pm.
Daily spectator routes/maps and a full rider entry list can be found in the official SSDT Programme which is on sale at various outlets in the Fort William area.
