Take a look: Simon Bown’s Bultaco
By John Dickinson on 1st Mar 17
The opening Kia National Twinshock Championship round of the year always sees something special and the Congleton round last Sunday was no exception.
Drawing plenty of attention in the paddock was this really nice blue Bultaco that looks pretty standard at first glance but there's actually a raft of mods from stock.
Sheffield's Simon Bown says it took him "two years on and off” to complete and the mods are too numerous to mention, although Bultaco enthusiasts will enjoy checking the pictures out.
The fuel tank was self-made and looks dead ‘right' although it is several inches shorter than standard.
The airbox is self made as is the exhaust with a very smart and neat stainless ‘long' front pipe.
The swinging arm spindle has been relocated forward for extra length (and is closer to the front sprocket of course).
The engine has been rebuilt and sports a 280cc capacity having been treated to a Gas Gas piston.
The KIA opener was only the second outing having come through an initial shake-down run absolutely fine.
