The ACU has launched all-new Trial GB logos, colour-coordinated by class to match the flags used to mark out sections, and a website (acutrialgb.org.uk) ahead of the upcoming ACU British Motorcycle Trials Championship. Under new management, the series will have five rounds in 2024 – the season opener runs at Po House in Cumbria on April 21 and is followed by rounds at Hookwood, Brimham Moor (two weeks and about as many fields apart) and Geddington. See website for full calendar. The new management team consists of former top-level competitor Sam Connor, who takes on the role of Sporting Manager, while Barry Heskinson replaces Brian Higgins as the Series Manager.

As well as refreshing the management, branding and online portal of the series, another change is dropping the Trial 125 class, although a maximum of five youth riders may enter the Expert class on a no-award basis at the discretion of the ACU Trials and Enduro Committee, meaning there will be just three classes this year – Trial GB, Trial 2 and Trial Expert – with up to 80 competitors riding at each event.

After a couple of years of dwindling numbers, the series is sure to come under plenty of scrutiny in 2024 but there’s hope for growth and perhaps a more even balance of host locations moving forward. A couple of hugely positive steps to note are the inclusion of the Youth series and Ladies/ Girls series on the new website as well as a yet-to-be-populated rider and team profiles section.

Check it out if you get the chance.
