Trials Torque: Neath next for BTC
By Team TMX on 17th May 17
THE Neath Motor Club stages the third round of the eight-round RT Keedwell British Trials Championship this Sunday, May 21, with the St Davids Trial, the clubs long-standing National trial.
With reigning Champion James Dabill not defending his title, a close fought contest was forecast and so far, after just two rounds, courtesy of Hookwood TC in Surrey and the Westmorland club in Cumbria, this has proved to be exactly the case.
Former champ Michael Brown currently leads the chase on 37 points from Gas Gas team mate Jack Price and they have both taken a win apiece in a classic experience v youth scenario.
Beta's Jack Sheppard is also right in the mix, just a point behind Pricey and riding sharp and steady.
Throw in the Peace brothers, Dan and Jack, who complete the top five at the moment and you can see why it is close at the top.
In the Clubman series Sherco's James Fry leads the way having dropped down from the Championship class.
With second place in the opener and a win in Cumbria James is just four ahead of Gas Gas stalwart Dan Thorpe while third is Beta's Richard Sadler who has targeted a series win this year.
But in a class with so much competition it wouldn't be a surprise to see it going to the wire.
The only class that looks nailed-on is Youth A where Billy Green has a maximum two wins and 40 points and coming from second place in the opening Trial125 World Cup staged in Spain last Sunday, then his nearest challengers, Duncan McColl, Josh Hanlon and Oli Smith have their work cut out.
Amazingly, all three lads are sitting on 30 points. This can't be the case on Sunday evening!
The St Davids will take place at Liety Rafel Farm, Aberdulais SA10 8HR this Sunday with a bright and early 9.30am start and the event will comprise the stipulated three laps of 12 sections.
