Trials Torque: S3 boys get Carter!
By John Dickinson on 5th Apr 17
THIS Sunday sees the Yeadon Guiseley club stage their always eagerly anticipated Chris Carter National at their own Dob Park venue near Otley, Yorkshire.
And as expected there is a monster turnout with an entry just short of 150.
And there's quality as well as quantity with a top class group of riders going for the overall Premier to add to the majority who will be battling for S3 Parts British Championship points.
It may only just have turned April but the Chris Carter represents the fifth round of the 2017 S3 Parts series and all of the contenders will be lined up looking for maximum points.
It's a Sherco 1-2-3 at the top with Luke Walker currently holding a 10-point lead from James Fry with former multi S3 champ Chris Pearson third.
Luke won the first two rounds before Chris came back strong to win the last two. James won every round he contested last year and took the title on maximum points but hasn't managed a win this year so far but has had three third places.
Richard Timperley holds fourth while fifth-placed Sam Yeadon has scored in every round and will be looking for some big points in his home round.
World and British champ Emma Bristow currently sits ninth as she enjoys riding ‘proper' trials.
In the Clubman Championship, proving very popular in its first year, the runaway leader is Hillsborough club rider Darren Wasley who sits on 69 points after winning the last three rounds.
Long-time Midlands ace Tony Cowley is second on 30 points and veteran southern star Dave Clinkard third on 28. All three will resume battle in this well-supported class.
The group of none S3 Parts championship contenders looking to take the Chris Carter Trophy is like a full British Champs line-up with Gas Gas UK runners Michael Brown, Jack Price and Dan Thorpe a potential top three!
But that's nowhere near guaranteed with Beta fielding Jack Sheppard, Richard Sadler and Ben Hemingway, the latter getting into Scottish Six Days mode having won the Ripon club's Jack Lesie Ellis trial last Sunday.
Stir in the likes of Jonathan Richardson and Tom Minta – plus the leading S3 guys – and picking an overall winner on Sunday is a tough job!
The start will be at a bright and breezy 9.30am, just stab LS21 2NA, there will be two laps of 20 sections and riders and spectators please follow all Yeadon Guiseley instructions. Note that no overnight camping is allowed at the venue.
