Trials Torque: S3 gets Carter
By John Dickinson on 6th Apr 16
THE 2016 ACU S3 Parts British Clubman Championship hits the fifth round of the planned nine already this Sunday when the Yeadon and Guiseley club stage their Chris Carter Trial which will be based at their Dob Park venue, Otley, Yorkshire.
This year the Chris Carter will be run over two laps of a 20 section course which caters for Clubmen as well as the S3 Championship.
The opening three groups – which only include four sections – are out of bounds for spectators but the remainder are all reachable on foot from the car park.
Starting with six subs in Brown's Wood, there's then a lone sub at Splash, four at Sword Point and then it's five back at the start at Dob Park.
There's a reduced entry of 84 riders but considering that there are four other club trials being staged in Yorkshire, including a re-scheduled Richmond event, it is easy to see what has happened to the local would-be entry.
A total of 40 Clubman class riders will get the event away at 9.30am, before the S3 class is headed by Rob Waite, Aran Drachenberg and Jack Stones.
The man to beat though is James Fry who has won the opening four rounds and already holds a 22-point lead over fellow Sherco rider Luke Walker.
James recently said: "I hadn't actually planned to ride the whole series but I guess I better had now.”
Luke, John Crinson, Guy Kendrew, Tom Hick and Jack Sheppard – all the way from Ipswich – provide opposition, as will Scott winner Ian Austermuhle, who is getting some practise in before the Scottish.
Ladies in the S3 class include World No.1 and Emma Bristow and No.2 Becky Cook while Katy Sunter and Louise Alford contest the Clubman.
Dan Thorpe and Andy Chilton are riding for the Chris Carter Trophy, although if current form is anything to go by James Fry will take some beating.
