Trials Torque: S3’s six of the best for the Lomax
By John Dickinson on 12th Apr 17
THE ACU S3 Parts Championship sees the sixth round of the eight-round series take place on Easter Monday, April 17, when the Llangollen DMC stage their always popular Lomax Trial.
As in recent years the trial will start from the Glyn Ceiriog Hotel, Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire, LL20 7EU.
There will be a single-lap course which will take in 36 sections set over several groups set round a 35 mile course taking in roads, fields and forest tracks in rural north Wales.
There's a max 120 entry plus reserves eagerly looking to get a ride should someone pull out.
All the usual S3 Parts Champs suspects are involved, many of them having competed in the previous day's RT Keedwell British Champs the previous day in Cumbria.
Luke Walker, James Fry, Chris Pearson and co will all be looking for maximum points before the series takes a break for three months before the penultimate round in July and then another two months before the Newcastle club stage the final round with their Travers Trophy.
The Championship regulars might just have a little trouble, though, with local ace Tom Sagar who makes one of his rare trials outings and who is well able of causing a major upset.
Having an outing in the Clubman class are Rob Bowyer and Phil Houghton on their Pre-65 Triumph twins ready to embarrass the modern machinery.
Dan Thorpe and Jack Price won't be involved in the Championship but the Gas Gas UK duo will be looking to nail the Lomax Trophy.
There's an early 9.30am start and while the Lomax is a brilliant trial to ride it isn't the easiest to follow due to narrow lanes and people need to park sensibly.
