Trials Torque: Scarborough set for a Cliff-hanger
By John Dickinson on 2nd Nov 16
SCARBOROUGH DMC hold their big money Cliff Collinson National Trial this Sunday, November 6, at the clubs own awesome venue at Low North Park, Harwood Dale, says John Watson.
A talented entry of Experts are all in with a shout with locals and visitors making it a true National.
Aiming for the Premier Award and the cool £300 that goes with it (plus there are other cash prizes) will be a swathe of young riders.
The line-up includes the local globe-trotting Gas Gas mounted brothers who have enjoyed an amazingly successful 2016, Dan and Jack Peace from nearby Kirkby Moorside.
Both boys are full of confidence and on home ground for a change.
Welsh Champion and last year's Collinson winner, Iwan Roberts, is back to defend his title for Beta and Iwan will be challenged by recently-crowned British Expert champ Tom Minta, who is in excellent form after a switch to Gas Gas.
A late entry comes from talented Cornish teenager Toby Martyn who makes the long trek north to head the Sherco challenge.
Andy Chilton on the Scorpa and TRS new boy Adam Milner are two local lads who will be looking to cause an upset on the day.
In the Inter class it could be Scarborians leading the way. Father and son Gary and Zac Collinson know this ground like the back of their hand, as does Feetup rider Michael Todd, but young Olly Kendra will be pushing hard, along with the slightly older, but no less talented, Peter Sharp.
This no-stop event will see the first rider flagged away at 9am and the course will take in two laps of 20 sections, all off road.
There is ample parking for spectators and excellent hard-standing parc ferme for riders.
The club also runs a welcome on-site cafe for hot and cold refreshments.
Take it as read that there will be some spectacular sections in Low North Park to make an exciting day for spectators.
And the skill level from the young guns will be more than a match.
Secretary Pete Race says that any rider still wanting an entry should give him a ring asap on 01723-863987.
