Trials Torque: Tong in WTC groove
By John Dickinson on 29th Jun 16
SUNDAY, June 26, was the big inspection day for the Wulfsport Oset Yorkshire World Trial GP at Tong, near Bradford, Yorkshire.
Jordi Pascuet, the FIM section advisor, visited to inspect the venue and to see what progress had been made towards the world trial round on July 16-17.
The good news is that Jordi was very impressed with the work Graham Jarvis , Sandy Mack and Dave Hoare and his team have done over the last eight months in getting the venue ready for the UK round of the FIM Trial World Championship.
Jordi said he was led to believe that all the sections would be man-made but was very pleasantly surprised to find no fewer than SEVEN natural sections, with only small enhancements of added rockery, plus five manufactured sections with big steps.
Jordi did request a few minor changes to some sections, mainly on the length and this is being implemented as you read this.
With 92 riders signed-up to date – including 32 women who kick-off their 2016 World Championship in its first ever visit to Britain – its going to be a bonanza weekend of trials.
World Ladies champ Emma Bristow and No.2 and No.3 Becky Cook and Donna Fox get their well-deserved chance to perform in front of a home crowd and fully deserve your support.
TMX Yorkshire correspondent Barry Robinson visited the Tong site on Tuesday this week and was given a tour by Graham, who said that around 300tons of earth and rocks had been moved around since Christmas.
Barry reported that the venue was looking really good, with the sections all marked out and taped – by Graham and his builder pal Mark Langstaff.
There's an excellent hard-standing paddock and all is ready to welcome nine-times World Champion Toni Bou and the rest of the World Championship circus.
