Trials S3 Parts

This weekend (weather permitting please!) will see the second round of the 2020 S3 Parts Championship thanks to the Westmorland Motor Club and their showpiece Milnthorpe Cup Trial.

This single-lap, 36-section epic will take in 20-plus miles of the southern Lake District in the Lythe and Winster valleys, near Kendal with the start near Bowland Bridge, LA11 6NN.

There will be multiple groups of sections joined by narrow lanes so PLEASE take care on the roads. A mighty entry of 151 competitors has been accepted with good numbers in all three main classes.

In the Premier Experts class Dan Thorpe looks for his second maximum points haul after a satisfying S3 Parts opening round, the North Berks clubs Wallace Cup. Second-placed Sam Yeomans travels to Cumbria but Tom Moss has given it a miss.

Stepping in, though, is Tom Minta while the likes of James Fry, Tom Housecroft and World Ladies Champ Emma Bristow can never be ruled out. And Gary MacDonald is set to travel down from Fort William for a rare trials outing as he is heavily committed to MTB and Cyclo Cross these days.

The Over 40 class is wide open as several of the heavy opening round points scorers are absent while reigning champ Phil Houghton will be looking to better his Wallace Cup seventh place.

Yorky Darren Wasley will also be hoping to march up the standings after a poor, by Waz standards, Wallace.

In the Clubman contest, the top two from round one, Sam Atherton and Miles Jones will look to build on their Championship lead but once again it is early days and theres plenty of competition.

The Minthorpe will start at 9am prompt with two riders departing each minute. Please park carefully and sensibly, everywhere is soaking wet following weeks of rain.

Clerk of Course Antony Brockbank is cracking on despite the weather but if it takes a turn for the worse towards weekend keep an eye on the Westmorland clubs Facebook page.

Fingers crossed, (at time of writing), for a cracking traditional trial as per usual.
