Whitby clash for BTC boys

THE sixth of the eight round RT Keedwell British Trials Championship series takes place this Sunday, courtesy of the Guisborough club and will be contested on the north Yorks moors near Whitby.
Gas Gas teamsters and pals Jack Price and Michael Brown currently top the table with Pricey holding a narrow six-point lead which Michael will be keen to reduce in what is almost a second home-round for Browny after the Scarborough trial in June.
Third in the series is Beta's Jack Sheppard and the East Anglian will be journeying from the flatlands hoping to repeat the victory he earned at last year's event which would leap him right back into contention for the title as he is only eleven points adrift of the series leader.
There's no shortage of competition, though, and Dan Peace (Gas Gas), Iwan Roberts (Beta) and Toby Martyn (Vertigo) are all capable of climbing that top step and will be keen to bag a podium at least.
In the Experts class it is just as tight at the top with Beta-mounted Richard Sadler having eased out a five-mark advantage from Sherco's James Fry and the ever-present Gas Gas ambassador Dan Thorpe sitting in third.
All have claimed one win each so far.
The only rider to have won two Experts events is Devon's Joe Baker in the only two trials he has entered, the St Davids in Wales and his local West of England.
The Youth class sees Billy Green as the only maximum man with 100 points from his five victories. It is close behind though, with fellow Beta riders Josh Hanlon and Duncan McColl.
Josh and Duncan will be going all out, not only in their personal battle but to take advantage of any slip by Billy.
The venue is at Mountain Ash Farm, Glaisdale (YO21 2QA) is nobody's practice ground so no perceived advantage and is a good day out for spectators with a two-and-a half-mile lap, including rocky gullies and massive, grippy rocks high on the moor, plus steep climbs and rocks in the latter stages.
There is plenty of excellent, accessible parking and there will be refreshments and toilets on site.
Start time is 9 30am and the entry fee is just £5 per car, great value for money to see the best riders in the country.
It is also situated amid one of the most spectacular areas in the North York Moors.
