Trial World Championship Toni Bou
Sport7 marked a highly successful first season promoting the TrialGP series by commissioning a new FIM Trial World Championship trophy created in honour of the late Martin Lampkin.
In a tribute to the first-ever Trial World Champion, the impressive trophy was presented to Toni Bou by Martins widow Isobel and their eldest son Dougie at the FIM Awards in Andorra last weekend.
It is a great honour to be the first FIM Trial World Champion to receive this very special and beautiful trophy here in Andorra, said Bou. I would like to thank Sport7 for bringing this trophy to the championship and recognising all the many champions and also my own 11 titles too.
Having Dougie and Isobel here to make the presentation made the moment even more special and I would like to thank the Lampkin family for their kind actions.
The trophy, weighing in at almost 10kg, was created by TrialGP series partner Hope Technology and carries the names of all 14 riders whove won the TrialGP world title since Martin Lampkins historic victory in 1975s inaugural championship.
It seems incredible that this historic FIM World Championship has never had an official trophy to celebrate the great champions of this sport, said TrialGP Championship Director Jake Miller.
As well as our work to promote and develop the series, we always felt it was our duty to create a lasting legacy for the championship, especially given our long and close association with Martin and the Lampkin family.
To finally realise this magnificent trophy in Martins honour and to have his family here to present it to Toni is something that we are very proud to have made happen.
