Bike Reviews

WITH Gas Gas having unleashed a completely new PRO range of trials bikes for 2009 featuring the brand-new, lightweight tubular steel frame designed in conjunction with star rider Adam Raga, for the full range of 125/250/290 and 300 models, it is no surprise to learn that on the technical front there are no major changes for 2010. Yet when you see the actual bikes you would be forgiven for thinking that they were all-new again as the 2010 look is stunning with the red black and silver hues making for awesome showroom appeal.

Before letting Woody tell you what the Gassers are like to ride - and all trials riders will know EXACTLY how they ride - here's a quick rundown of the PRO range for newbies. Heart of the Gasser PRO range is the factory's unique ultra-compact, water-cooled two-stroke motor that actually looks too small to contain everything needed in an engine/ gearbox unit.

Extremely clever design is the secret as the gearbox actually contains just four pairs of gears, but magic design somehow gives six ratios! Clever use of an ultra-compact car-type single plate clutch, coupled to just four sets of cogs means the narrowest crankcases you'll find on an off-road bike.

A tiny, light, engine obviously means that it can be fitted into a tiny, light frame and that is exactly what Gas Gas has done with a really simple but strong tubular steel 'perimeter' frame.

Top-spec Marzocchi trials forks, with lightweight aluminium stantions, and a linkage-type single shock rear suspension attached to the black-finish aluminium swinging-arm, complete the chassis.

Titanium-colour anodised wheel rims are a class touch for 2010 and compliment the trick S3 titanium pipe, previously only fitted to the up-market Raga Rep, now comes as standard on the PRO.
