Club Reports

The weather last weekend did nothing to dampen the spirits of riders who took to the start line for the final round of WOR Events Wulfsport Winter Hare Scrambles Series, set in one of the clubs Llandrillo Forestry blocks.

A flowing and enjoyable six-mile lap was on offer for both the Quads in the morning race and the Solos in the afternoon race, both races running for two-hours straight.

The Quads got underway at 9.30am and Martin Benbow, again mounted on a Suzuki Farm Bike, put in the fastest times to secure the overall race win.

Benbow had a turbulent opening lap but managed to track down Stephen Williams, who led the race for the first few circuits, alhtough Benbow eventually built a two-minute advantage with both riders on eight laps apiece.

A latecomer after oversleeping in his motorhome in a lay-by near the venue was Simon Lang who, despite joining the event one-hour late, managed to rack up four-laps on his Can-Am.

Graham Guy topped the Clubman 4x4 class with a fine ride ahead of Mark Williams and Dave Dixon in second and third, respectively.

Young Danny Percival topped the Clubman 2WD class with a great ride and he headed home Ben Dean and Steve Farthing. The Quads again put in a superb effort to tackle the proper enduro course and all the finishers fully deserved their plaudits at the chequered flag.

Later, at noon, the solo riders got away on a slightly modified track to tackle the forest challenges.

Ryan Heinz (350 KTM) was the first man back to lap-scoring and he led from start to finish with a very determined ride to claim the Expert crown in the Wulfsport Winter Championship in the class.

Martin Wells did the same in the Expert Veteran class. Hole shotting the event, Wells then did enough to secure the points needed to clinch the series in his class.

Paul Engerlen was in great form in the Clubman category and finished second overall in the race.

Roy Broomfield finished second on the day but did enough to secure the Clubman title.

A special mention must go to Glesni Jones as she was in top form blasting the little revver to a fine third in the Clubman class. Jones only just lost second spot on the last lap as Broomfield nipped past.

Top Clubman Vet was Jeremy Mold, who also did enough to win the series, too. Mold is improving every ride and fully deserved his nine-lap total.

Runner-up, also on nine-laps but a couple of minutes down on Mold was Simon Wright. Wright had not been on a bike for six-months but came back showing he had lost none of his speed to make the podium.

Third went to Rob Pearce matching the top two on nine-laps.

Sion Jones was again a young man on a mission and he matched his sister, Glesni's performance of nine laps to take the Sportsman class win and the championship.

Always improving and showing smooth speed and skill, Jones was over a minute clear of second placed Dewi Davies.

Matt Verrin rounded out the podium finishers with Titus Blackwell chasing him hard in fourth spot.

It was close in the Sportsman Veteran with Lee Sephton, Emyrs Price and his brother Bryn in second and third. Sephton won the series in his respective class.

Duncan Humphrey was going well after having been erratic during the first two laps. He topped the Over 50 class on the day and the series with ease.

Runner-up spot went to Guy Standring with Stephen Heinz third.

There was a Husqvarna 1-2-3 in the Youth with Chloe Richards and her twin brother Declan racking up eight laps each, with a four-minute advantage going to Chloe.

Matt Connell has put in massive effort over the last few months to get better and his work paid off as he secured his first win in the Novice group.

Connell was the only rider in class to make nine-laps and if his form carries on improving the Sportsman class looms.

The event went well with all the riders having enjoyed the set out of the course and the huge variation in terrain on offer. The series started in sunshine back in October but each event after that was run in pretty challenging conditions making it a true Winter Hare Scrambles series.

WOR would like to thank Wulfsport for its continued support of this championship.
