Report: WOR Events
By Team TMX on 4th Nov 15
The Wulfsport Winter Hare Scrambles series got underway last Sunday in what can only be described as freak weather.
It was November 1 and the sunshine and temperatures were stunning for this time of year.
The WOR team had set out a stunning nine-mile lap that had a little bit of everything in it, from open flowing trails to technical tight sections.
The track went down a storm with the riders and with the bright sunshine and zero wind it was almost like riding abroad.
Ryan Heinz was the top rider on the day as he secured his first overall win at WOR Events with a solid and committed performance on his 4T KTM.
Steve Hughes was runner-up although a back brake problem stopped him putting in a proper challenge for the race duration.
Young Ross Davies had moved up to Expert for the first time and had moved into a very healthy lead before the end of lap one.
But disaster struck as his rear mousse gave up the ghost and left him motionless at the side of the track and sporting an unwanted DNF.
John Steeples showed up and controlled the Expert Veteran class from the off.
Runner-up Julian Rylance was never too far from Steeples and eventually finished just nine seconds behind, aided by the fact Steeples had battled a front puncture for the last two laps of the race. Third spot went to Martin Wells.
Paul Engerlen returned to the top of the Clubman class with a strong ride to edge out Matt Silvester who was going well to secure the Silver placing.
Roy Broomfield was also going well and his improving performances earned him third place in the competitive Clubman class.
Chris Berry and John Jones had a race-long battle for top honours in the Clubman Vets and it was Berry who took the win in the end with a near two-minute advantage over Jones with both riders on six laps each.
Third Spot went to Mark Lakeland with a determined effort.
The Sportsman group had a right ding-dong going on as well.
Young Eddy Emery was in fact leading that class until his gear lever broke and that let Ben Key through to the front to battle with eventual runner-up, Matt Verrin.
Joe Townsend had made the move from Youth class to Sportsman and celebrated third place on his Sherco.
After missing a fair chunk of WOR Events over the last few years a fit and fast Nigel Travis came back with a fine win in the Sportsman Vets class as he pushed Mark Heaton into the runners-up spot with Paul Love third.
Colin Griffiths was again in top form in the Over 50s as he pushed his KTM 300 2T to the front of the pack ahead of Duncan Humhreys.
Third place went to Stephen Wadsworth on five laps.
In the Youth class, Declan Richards had a great ride on his 125 Husky as he completed a brilliant six laps to easily take the class win.
Runner-up was his sister, Chloe, still coming to terms with her new 125cc bike after having moved up from her Trusty 85cc Big-wheel. Rob Francom rounded out the all-Husky podium in third .
In the Solo race Dave Birch topped the Novice group from Joe Beddoes by just under two minutes, as Leon Dean secured a well-earned third spot.
Earlier in the day the small but committed line up of Quads had taken to the line for a 2.5hr showdown across the vast forest area and they loved the flowing and challenging track.
Endaf Owen was the fastest man out there as he secured the overall win and his class win.
Aled Jones was second as he matched Owens' six laps.
Chris Nelson made the long trip over from Northern Ireland to take part and had set a fair pace and led at the front before disaster struck and his engine seized on the Honda 450 with three laps under his belt. ehen Williams was best 4X4 Championship rider and Graham Guy was top 4x4 Clubman.
Danny Percival did a brilliant six laps to take the 2WD Clubman spoils from George Betton.
