THE 2007 Cleveland National trial takes place this Sunday and, with a mighty entry of 180 riders, follows the same general lines as it has for over 50 years, centering on the remote village of Castleton on the North Yorks Moors and covering an equally remote dozen miles of moorland with a few short patches of metalled road.

Under the control of Peter Moon, a man who planted Cleveland sectionsback in the 1970s, and who shouldered the burden from Bob Easton againthis year, the course takes in seven ‘patches' with five deputiesoverseeing each patch. Each area will include seven sections with afinale at legendary

Stormy Hall where eight sections will test the riders, and entertainspectators in what is basically almost a Roman amphitheatre - withoutthe lions!

The groups take in Blackmires, Honey Bee Nest, the remote Dalehead,Fallon Nab, Danby Top and Stormy Hall. The total is 36 sections withdual routes for Experts and Clubmen.

British Champion Graham Jarvis will be the man to beat and leadingnorthern National regulars Shaun Morris, Ian Austermuhle, John Crinson,Michael Brown, Ben Hemingway and Chris Pearson - not forgettingGraham's Sherco team-mate Lee Sampson - could all threaten Grimbo forthe premier.
