Back in the habit
By Barry Robinson on 14th Jun 07

IT was business as usual on Saturday for Luke Walker and Dan Peace at sun - blitzed Marrick Abbey Farm, near Richmond, Yorkshire, on Saturday, but the lads, and one young lady, were not taking holy orders at the ancient North Yorkshire Abbey but on a serious mission to grab ACU Youth Championship points.
For Walker and his MRS Sherco, this was one stepinto the unknown, Scott Trial country, and all competitors rode partsof the legendary Underbanks sections, on the long, climbing ravineoverlooking Grinton.
The third round in the C and D series did notproduce any earth-shattering news, but Walker and the Brothers Peacedid not have an easy day at all. Jack Peace went down to Aldis Blacker,he of the long flowing locks and steely determination. The boy fromBoroughbridge rides his venerably TY80 so well. Dan Peace awaited aStewards' inquest regarding the observed scores of a rival before beinginformed that he had another 20 Championship points in the bag. Seemssome parents were at odds with the rulebook, but in Richmond parlance aroll-back is a five, as is taking flags out with wheels.
The weather was cooperating at Marrick Abbey Farmwhere John Fraser and Ted Harston laid on a three-lap championshipcourse with a dozen sections for Class D and one more for the big boys.
Team Bullock and Tom Howie dropped-out while poorBradley Walker got cross-threaded at the top of the ninth on lap oneand came a nasty cropper that put the footpeg into his right thigh andalso crocked his knee.
A quad, driven by landowner Ernest Bainbridge inthe parc ferme, served to get the lad to the ambulance after Countyparamedics arrived to collect him and take him to MiddlesbroughHospital. Event Secretary Rhona Peacock and her assistant ChristineWallis administered first aid.
