Wat a day for Ben
By TMX Archives on 14th Jun 07

"WHAT a difference a day makes'' and so it proved for round four of the BYMX Championship. The event was hosted by the Oxford Ixion Club on the water starved, arid terrain of Howton Court Pontrilas. Water starved and arid that was until nature intervened turning the virtual dust bowl into a mud bath for the start of the second days racing.
Difficult conditions all around for both days, butat the end of it all were we any clearer as too knowing who might bepolishing silverware come the autumn? Well maybe!
PAR-KTM starlet Ben Watson, with a style and panache that belies hisage, again took the Junior 65cc section by the scruff of the neck andtotally dominated with three race wins. At the end of the day it wasCallan Cooper with the other race win, two second places and a thirdwho stood proudly on the second step on the podium, while in thirdposition overall was Jack Heath.
With another string of fine, gritty, fast pacedrides Jack is also keeping the pressure right on in the race for thechampionship. Corrie Southwood, Tom Neal, Max Acres and Matty Callaghanall had their moments too at different times over the weekend inanother great display from the 65cc guys.
Isle of Man flying machine Jamie McCanney, whomissed the last round through injury, returned with vengeance in theSmall-wheel 85cc division. Reeling off two scorching race wins and acouple of third places he took the overall by a single point from aresurgent Dan Thornhill.
Dan took a race win, and showing the best form ofhis season so far, seemed to relish the tricky conditions and was a tadunlucky not to take the overall win for himself. Rob Muscat took thefinal race victory and it could have been two with a little more luckas he put in another terrific weekends work for third overall.
Series leader Matthew Flemming had to settle forfourth and the unlucky Scott Aldridge, who found himself trapped underhis machine when odds on for a last race win, finished in fifth placeoverall.
Redline KTM runner Josh Spinks topped out in theBig-wheel 85s courtesy of a race win and three runner-up places and hewas the only rider who looked like putting any kind of decent challengeon Sam Davis. Awesome is the only word to describe Sam's performance ashe destroyed a quality field with another hat-trick of race wins toconsolidate his position at the head of the championship table.
