Ben heads the Field!

BEN Field, riding a 250F Suzuki, stormed to three convincing wins on day one of the BSMA's 2007 finals, but struggled to repeat his performance on day two after a first lap crash in the morning. But a win in the last race for the weekend gave him the overall victory, by just two points over his nearest rival, Yamaha mounted Lewis Trickett.
This year's finals were staged by the hard workingpeople of the Severn Valley Schoolboy Club at their hillside track atBrookthorpe in Gloucestershire and talking about hard workers, nonemade more of a sacrifice for the sport than the club's Mike Truman whoperformed above and beyond the call of duty.
At six o'clock on the Saturday evening, after ahard day's racing, he was helping put up the beer tent while he waitedfor a tractor to become available from a local hire company. He pickedup the machine at 9pm and then raked the track's surface and watered itall, all night long without a break. He was seen taking the tractorback at 9am, leaving behind him a well-watered track that was dust-freeuntil over three quarters of Sunday's racing was over.
He then, rightly so, slept through most of Sunday's event.
The top ten from the BSMA's quarter finals allover the country qualified for the meeting so this really was the bestof its members. As per previous finals, there were three races on bothSaturday and Sunday with the best five out of the six to count.
