RECENTLY crowned British MX1 Champion, Brad Anderson is out of action after breaking a bone in his thumb while practicing at a local track in the North-East last Wednesday, and admits that it is highly unlikely that he'll be fit for the Motocross des Nations in Italy. Brad had been feeling under the weather for a couple of weeks: I felt that I'd got no energy, but I was asked to consider racing at the final round of the Red Bull Pro National series last weekend and though I'd go out on my bike to see how I was feeling before making any decision.
However I had a spill and I've broken a bone in my thumb. I just can't grip anything at the moment.''
The injury is a real blow for Brad who was aiming to be on top form for the Nations after being selected as of right for the first time this year. He was chosen as (non travelling) reserve last year, but didn't get a call up.
I'm really gutted that this will prevent me from racing at the Nations and showing what I can do. I'm having laser treatment to try to speed up the healing process and I have to talk with the ACU in the next few days to let them know how it's all going. But at the moment, I'd have to say it's doubtful!
If I can't ride in the British team, I plan to be at Franciacorta to cheer on the lads.''
MEANWHILE, the ACU issued a press release on Tuesday to say that following discussions with numerous individuals, it (the ACU) was pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Dixon as 2009 British team manager for the Motocross of Nations.
The release also explained that the ACU had received confirmation that Brad Anderson's injury will definitely rule him out of the Nations event for this year.
The assembled members of the Motocross Committee discussed various options for Anderson's MX1 replacement and, in consultation with the newly-appointed team manager, and have made a decision.
The replacement rider will be announced shortly.
