Bringing back the fun!

ACU Events, in partnership with rideoffroaduk is trying to buck the economic downturn and investing in grassroots off-road sport by starting a new introductory Hare and Hounds series with the emphasis very much on fun'. The series in 2010 will run over three events.
Specifically aimed at new clubman, veteran, female or fun riders, the X-Country series will be a fantastic platform for enthusiasts or riders wanting to try out enduro sport as it will visit some venues well suited to the calibre of riders being targeted.
The series starts at the nostalgic Norwood Teversal venue in Nottinghamshire on April 11. Norwood was a venue for televised scrambles back in the 1960s. Round two takes place on July 18 at the popular Lee Dell venue, near Rochdale, a facility which offers acres of open going in a hidden valley strewn with old mill ruins. The final round will take place on September 19 at a new venue in Lincolnshire.
"With the ACU Events backing and rideoffroaduk organisation, the new XC series will be run to the very highest of standards with excellent courses, top notch facilities and all the safety and insurances in place that you would expect from a top British Championship event – but all geared at fun riders,” explains ACU Trials and Enduro chairman, John Collins.
"I'd like to congratulate ACU Events for investing in the sport at this difficult financial time. It is leadership like this that will see the sport grow and thrive and at the same time gives licence-holders a greater choice of where and what to ride.” The new XC series has been formed following months of negotiation between Collins, Frank Carter of ACU Events and rideoffroaduk's Wayne Braybrook. Having identified the need for a specific series aimed at novice ability riders, the classes catered for are Sportsman/ Hobby, Over 40, Over 50, Ladies and Clubman only.
Wayne Braybrook explains: "With many high-profile organisers targeting Pro and Expert class riders, we feel that the most heavily populated classes at most Hare and Hounds events deserve their own official XC series. It has long been an aim of mine to cater for the masses who enjoy the sport – these riders are the lifeblood for endurosport.
"The courses at these events will be tailored as straightforward, safe and enjoyable routes for to ride.”
