BYMX gets busy at Cusses

THE sixth and penultimate round of the Moggstar BYMX championship arrives at the Cusses Gorse track, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, this weekend for yet more intense racing action, organised and run by the Devon MCC this time out, writes Bryan Atkinson. With just one more round to complete in this year's championship at Brookthorpe in September and some of the classes still very far from decided, all the top runners will be looking for a successful weekends' racing and hopefully won't drop points to any of the others chasing the title of BYMX Champion.
Cumbrian Ben Green goes to Cusses Gorse at the top of the Junior 65cc class with 786 points and a lead of 72 points over Jason Meara in second. Third position runner currently is Robert Yates on 697 points, 89 points behind Green, so any of the top three could win the championship, but it all depends if anyone of them has a bad day. This is one battle that will go to the final round to decide who walks away with the coveted title.
The always competitive Small-wheel 85cc class is the closest at the top and only 22 points seperate the top three currently. Jordan Goodwin leads the way at the moment on 733 points, closely followed by James Dunn, and Michael Eccles who are tied on 711. Callan Cooper is in fourth position with 633, 100 points behind Godwin, but as they say in motocross anything can happen. It will be one class to watch to see the outcome though, that is for certain.
Luke Hawkins has a commanding lead in the Big-wheel division with 779 points, 85 ahead of second place Ryan Houghton with 694, but Hougton is far from comfortable as Daniel Hutchinson is in third, just one point behind him.
Paul Coates could possibly take a top three place if any of the top three make any mistakes, but the battle will commence and what a class to watch again. Will Hawkins dominate or will Houghton and Hutchinson, just back from the Junior World Championship in Holland, have something up their sleeves to beat him?
With 135 points available at Cusses Gorse, Scott Elderfield will be hoping he hits form and takes the overall again like he did at Woodford because if he doesn't then any one of the top seven riders could knock a great hole in his championship lead.
Elderfield leads at the moment with 536 points with Tommy Fenwick second with 479, closely followed by the only 125cc pilot, Lewis King, on 477 points. The others who could gain are previous leader Joe Gregory on 457, David Games on 443, and newly crowned MXY2 champ Edward Allingham and James Hutchinson who are both on 439 points. This championship will go down to the wire I am sure.
Just a reminder for everyone who is going to Cusses Gorse, the land owner strictly forbids any dogs, push bikes or pit bikes at their venue, so please leave them at home.
Chief marshal for the event, Chris Reeves, is still on the lookout for marshals for this weekend also.
Anyone who is willing and able to help out and do a spot of flagging will be paid 85 for the weekend as well as seeing the best Youth racing that this country has to offer.
Please contact Chris on 07769-851105 if you are able to marshal or for more information.
