MIKE Taylor had his fingers burnt after some acrobatics on the way to the start line at the sixth round of the All Spares British Superquader Champs, staged by NORA-Sport at Teesside Autodrome, on Sunday. However, Taylor eventually got to the start-line in one piece and then went on to win the first Quad race convincingly leaving Mark Donnelly, Aaron Ebbitt and Daniel McDermott to squabble over second position, which Mark took with only a second to spare. This left Gareth Thomas further down the pack with a clear track from Steve Butler.
Race two and series leader, Mark Donnelly, was dominant with a good win, while Mike Taylor struggled to keep hold of his hard fought second position from the very eager Aaron Ebbitt. Gareth Thomas had a fairly safe fourth, while the biggest battle of the race was between Matt Lawry, Steve Butler and Daniel McDermott for fifth spot.
In the final race, Taylor took an early lead, but the ever eager Ebbitt soon claimed it for himself. He left Taylor to be hunted down and quickly passed by Daniel McDermott.
Thomas was next to pass Taylor as he began to drop further down the pack suffering with machinery problems.
Even though Ebbitt took the final win of the day, it was Mark Donnelly who came out best on points on the day, protecting his championship lead. However, in second place on points Ebbitt gave his standings a major boost, moving him seven points closer to Gareth Thomas and narrowing the margin to eight points at this stage in the series.
