A FULL entry of 115 riders turned out at day one of the annual YMSA Three-day Trial at Foxholes, near Matlock. The day was sunny, the atmosphere buzzing, and the first man was away at 12pm dead with a five and half hour time limit. A class and Expert started on section 11, a rocky stream, the slimy rock causing no problem for the top runner here, but on section nine, Lee Sampson and Sean Doyle were the only riders to complete this section on lap one until Ben Morphett arrived. A quick look at a double rock step section and Ben fired his 125cc Gas Gas up to an unbelievable clean. Jack Sheppard fived here but won day one on 19 points to Bens 23.
The Experts saw Lee Sampson in the lead on 22 but overall, James Carr took the win on 46 due to Lee having a christening in the family on Sunday.
B class started their day on section four in the river. The top riders here were Jake Evans-Luter, Tom Dexter, Jac Welch and George Gosden, all finishing the trial in that order. Intermediate had a close battle which saw Chris Keogh leading the pack from Rowan Puttock and Ben Ely.
Youth Novice had Lawrence Wright ahead all day pushing Ryan Laughton into second spot. C class saw Dan Peace, Billy Bolt and Iwan Roberts in a class of their own.
D class kept the family name in top spot as Jack Peace's score of seven put Sam Yeomans way back in second.
After a good night's sleep, everyone was ready for day two at Bracken Rocks where, after overnight showers, throttle control had to be very smooth as grip was hard to find.
A class riders had a tougher day at Bracken. Ben Morphett, trailing by four marks, showed true grit to finish the day in front. Experts had a new winner as Sean Doyle beat Simon Kershaw.
B class had a shake up from day one as Chris Short won day on 32 marks, 27 ahead of second place man Jac Welch. Day one winner, Jake Evans-Luter, came in fourth.
Intermediate class had no change on the leader board as Chris Keogh stayed in front of the feild, but Adult Novice saw changes. Mark Taylor dropped to second spot and Mark Lamplough took the win but still trailed by two marks overall.
C class started day two at section three and Iwan Roberts won the day on 25. Dan Peace settled for second spot ahead of Billy Bolt.
Sam Yeomans had a close battle with Jack Peace in D class again, winning with the small margin of just one mark, 36 to 37.
Dudwood Farm was venue number three with an early start of 9.30am. Andy Dexter was starting the trial with the stop watch and A class riders rolled away to section one.
Ben Morphett started the day in a confident mood and finished for the day on a measley eight marks. Jack Sheppard, leading from day one, suffered two maximums and handed the overall victory to Ben by seven marks.
Experts welcomed Lee Sampson back and he won the day on 14 marks, but Sean Doyle increased his lead and won the outright title comfortably from Simon Kershaw.
Chris Short showed B class how to ride again, giving the only clean lap ride and losing an astonishing three marks all day to snatch the three-day crown from Tom Dexter and Jake Evans-Luter who both tied on 101 marks.
Intermediate saw Chris Keogh dominate the class again, taking wins on all three days with a total of 111. Rowan Puttock had no answer to him with a total of 183, while and Ben Ely on 187 was third.
Youth Novice had Lawrence Wright in the lead by a comfortable margin over Ryan Laughton.
C class battled all weekend but Dan Peace took the overall win on a total of 40 marks over second place Iwan Roberts who finished on 54. Billy Bolt claimed third on 64.
