THE Severn Valley Club has been forced to move the venue for this weekend's final round of the BYMX Youth Motocross Championship after the recent spell of wet weather. ACU Officials met with members of the organising club at Brookthorpe on Monday evening and decided that, with water still running on the circuit, and more rain forecast, the track would not be suitable for such a high-profile event this weekend.
Officials of the club had already visited an alternative venue, which was viewed by both Brian Higgins and Roy Humphrey of the ACU MX Committee, who were immediately impressed with the venue which has a loamy sub-base and drains really well.
The new circuit is at Longdon, approximately 30 minutes drive north from Brookthorpe.
The circuit will be signed from Junction 1 of the M50 motorway, or, if approaching from the South, access is possible from Junction 9 of the M5 and travelling through Tewkesbury, heading north where the sign-posting will start from the junction of the A38 with the A438 Ledbury road.
The address of the venue is Hillworth Court, Yarde Bridge, Longdon GL20 6AX.
Brian Higgins, chairman of the Motocross Committee, commented: "With the town of Tewkesbury partly under water, I could not believe how dry the Longdon circuit was on Monday. It was really forward thinking by the Severn Valley Club to locate this excellent venue at such short notice. It will stand up to the British elements with its unique type of soil. I am convinced this will be a fitting climax to this year's series.”
The club and the MX Committee advise all riders and fans that all the latest information regarding the event will be posted on the BYMX website – www.bymx.org – as soon as it happens, so it should be checked daily.
