WITH just three weeks to go before the closing date, the final few entries are being offered to riders for the ACU Southern Twin-shock Club's Farleigh Castle Twin-shock, Evo and Veteran MX des Nations on September 5/6.There are classes for Over 40 Modern, Twin-shock Under 40, Twin-shock Over 40, Pre-90 125/250cc and Pre-90 500cc and Pre 65/74. David Thorpe is Guest of Honour and his team, CCM Motorcycles, the event's main sponsor. It is hoped CCM will have one model of every motocross bike they have ever produced on display along with their new for 2010 production motocrosser.
Jacky Vimond, the 1986 World 250cc Champion is currently in negotiations to purchase his old works Yamaha to ride at Farleigh as the venue is the Frenchman's favourite all-time track.
From Holland come four of the legendary Karsmakers family, Toon Karsmakers. South Africa has three riders making the long trip to Wiltshire with Dennis Slythe supplying Maico 490s for them.
Team Portugal will be kindly hosted by motocross fanatic, John Rutherford, from Weston-super-Mare under the Rutherford Cuisine banner.
Team France will bring the largest contingent of foreign riders to the event with the squad headed by former GP rider, Bruno David.
Team GB's Pete Mathia is on top form at present and Graham Noyce is currently slotting a 480 engine into his Mugen Honda ...for that extra bit of power''. Just back from a nasty foot injury is Terry House.
Other teams entered include Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Belgium, Germany and Sweden.
The weekend activities will start on Friday night with a concours show for twin-shock and evo bikes, followed by a Wurzels tribute band in the marquee with a licenced bar.
On Saturday there will be two motos per class after practice, followed by a evening interview with David Thorpe. Saturday evening concludes with a brilliant Madness tribute band.
On Sunday each class will have three races with a very special lunchtime Legends Lap' with Dave Thorpe/ Jacky Vimond and Graham Noyce re-united with their world title winning bikes along with a host of former GP riders and top 35 greats from the 1980s and early 90s.
To recreate the special atmosphere only Farleigh has, the old international paddock will be used to pit the teams and the track will, as closely as possible, follow the 500GP track of the 1980s with the famous steps and terrace section re-used.
Spectators can camp at the venue and there will be running water and toilets on site.
If this is not enough to entertain you, the Hungerford Arms, which is only a five-minute walk, from the track is re-opening its doors in time for the event.
The final few entries can be secured by e-mailing Phil Steadman on pcm.steadman@homecall.co.uk or ring 01179-570997. Traders wishing to operate at Farleigh over the weekend should contact 07767-205198.
