ROUND three of the superbly set-up Elite Youth Cup took place at the Motoland complex near Mildenhall, Suffolk. We have come to expect the best from the Elite organisation and, once more, they put on a great show as the four-round series boiled up on a blisteringly hot weekend of wall to wall sunshine, and what a relief it is to finally say that.
Not even a front-wheel puncture and the bikejammed in gear could stop young Ben Watson on his relentless march tostardom as he collected yet another first overall with four scorchingrace wins and a second place finish in Junior 65cc. Second overall,Corrie Southwood is in tremendous form at this point in the season andhe had a great day too as he took the other race win as Ben, hamperedby the machine problems, incredibly pulled through the field behind him.
It was a real tight shoot-out for the other placesas Michael Eccles battled hard in the searing temperatures to claimthird overall, and it was a terrific weekend also for Tom Neal, narrowly missing out on a top three finish. Behind him, Liam Knight andChubbie Hammond impres-sed as they were always in the action at thehead of the field.
Jamie McCanney was on a different planet to therest and quite simply unstoppable in the Small-wheel 85cc class as hecleaned-up with five emphatic race wins and never, ever looked likedropping a single point.
The rest of the top six were quite tightly bunchedas no-one else really managed to put in a full set of five top notchscores. James Dunn, riding superbly at times, with three second places, finished as runner-up overall, and Tom Rogers, like James with one ofhis best results of the season, was third.
